I too had taken the Diclofenec with the Methatrexate, I was lucky not to have problems with it that showed and it worked very well. I've had two operations for blocked arteries and had to stop taking it because of the risk of heart attack and stroke. I have taken Naproxen because of the lesser risk but now I take 300mg Tramadol daily along with the paracetamol all day. I has less risk.Glenys.

Perhaps some of the long term sufferers can explain to a newbie why I have been told that I cannot take ibuprofen as it increases the toxicity of mtx and only to take paracetamol which really does not help with my pain as I have RA in my knees and osteo in my neck. Just getting through the day at work is difficult trying to take pain meds that don't work--I don't see the point! I have co-codemol that I keep for night time as it makes me feel sick. I really mist the ibuprofen as it worked for my neck/arm pains so really struggling at the moment! I have noticed in other posts that some patients continue to take ibuprofen but I was told that I cannot!

Any answers out there?

Jan,
I think its a cost benefit analysis type thing, if the pros outweigh the cons then they'll prescribe it. Diclofenac is contra indicated with the MTX as is paracetamol as well as a load of other stuff. Perhaps try a post under drugs?

I was very sceptical about taking paracetemol when I was first diagnosed but my GP said that it is very underestimated in pain control. She said take the full 8 a day every day and once it has built up in your system you will be suprised at how well it works. She was right I have managed to get through the last 18 months existing on paracetemol during the day and then a stronger pain killer for the night.

Hi Jan

I have been told to take up to 6 ibuprofen a day along with paracetamol. I will be furious if what you have been told is correct. It is like we have no say in what we put our bodies through. I want to be given more information about things so I can make my own mind up. It seems to me that they don't care what happens to us as long as we are not contacting them all the time and making a 'nuisance' of ourselves. I feel very bitter at the moment and want to scream at someone (sorry! not you)
The more I read about the lack of consistent information about drugs, the condition etc the angrier I get.

Sorry to be a whinger but I somehow feel better for that!
